  • A monthly gift of $100 provides support for farm demonstrations for our Farmer in Training program.

The Farmer in Training (FIT) program provides job skills training to individuals interested in pursuing a career in agriculture. The FIT program provides a 31-week (full season long), 16-hour-per-week program. FITs select a capstone project that is related to their specific learning goals, such as building raised beds or compost bins, and complete it with supervision by the Farm Training Specialist. Participants are compensated as a part-time staff position, including a healthcare stipend.

  • A monthly gift of $75 provides seeds and plants for our Little Sprouts gardens for one year.

The Little Sprouts program serves over 200 preschoolers and their families at Flance Early Learning Center and Guardian Angel Child Development Center. Students participate in hands-on garden and cooking demonstrations, from seed to table, with the goal of encouraging children to eat healthy food now and later in life. Little Sprouts also helps to build foundational skills, such as fine and gross motor skills, along with an interest in STEM concepts.

  • A monthly gift of $50 supports one apprentice in our apprenticeship program.

The Apprenticeship Program engages individuals that reside in Low-Income Low-Access communities in an 8-week on-the-farm training program. Apprentices learn various farming techniques and explore food justice topics. Apprentices are connected to other local BIPOC growers through workshops, field trips, and guest speakers. In order to make this program accessible to all, Urban Harvest STL compensates participants forptheir time and provides transportation assistance to help them get to our farms.

  • A monthly gift of $25 underwrites one community workshop.

The workshop series creates an opportunity for the community to connect with program participants who may not be able to invest in the entire Apprenticeship or FIT program but still want to learn basic skills that they can use at home. Some of our popular workshops include "Pepper Bucket" and "Preserving your Harvest: How to make hot sauce".
