SOWING SEEDS OF CHANGE
OUR PLAN FOR EQUITY & ACCOUNTABILITY

Urban Harvest STL commits to advancing racial equity and justice within our organization and all aspects of our work. Below, please find an action plan that will guide our path forward. This is a living document that we will continue to update, reference, and hold ourselves accountable to. We are grateful to Soul Fire Farm and the National Young Farmers Coalition for their helpful resources on establishing this plan.

  • All employees and board members will complete anti-bias anti-racism training to deepen our knowledge of structural, institutionalized racism.

  • Weekly staff meetings will include activities and engagement designed to evaluate and understand racism, both internally and in our food system.

  • Recruitment and marketing processes will be contently improved so that apprentices, volunteers, event attendees, partners, board members, and employees better represent the communities we serve and the composition of our city.

  • New projects will involve close collaboration, leadership, and decision-making from members of the communities in which they take place.

  • We will increase purchasing from businesses owned by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC).

  • Narratives in our marketing, social media, tours, field trips, and classes will center BIPOC contributions to agriculture.

  • We will recognize, leverage, and offer our assets to organizations and individuals representing marginalized groups.

  • We will offer more accessible programming, including a paid apprenticeship, a job training program, and community-led events.

We welcome feedback on this plan. Please let us know what you think, give us suggestions, and hold us accountable to doing the work. The lines are always open at admin@urbanharveststl.org
