LEADERship in urban agriculture internship
Urban Harvest STL's internship program focuses on nurturing leadership skills in community development with an emphasis on urban farming. Interns will participate in daily farm operations of our projects in partnership with the Director of Urban Agriculture and in close alignment with the St. Louis community where our farms are located.
Our 2018 internship program runs in three sessions:
Spring : March - May FULL
Summer : June - August FULL
Fall: September - November FULL
Current interns have first option to continue through the next session. With so much to learn and do, about 50% of our interns choose to stay on for subsequent sessions.
Hands-on Learning & Field Trips
Interns spend a minimum of four hours each week working across our six urban farm sites learning directly from our Director of Urban Agriculture and Lead Farmer. Interns dig right into full-scope growing and harvesting practices throughout our rooftop farm rows, hydroponic towers, edible walls, raised beds, greenhouse, and ground-level community and school gardens. We also offer field trips to area farms so that interns can see a variety of agricultural operations.
Nonprofit & Community Leadership
Urban Harvest STL interns are advocates and representatives of our organization in vital ways. Interns help us host events on the FOOD ROOF and frequently interact with visitors and volunteers. Our interns have opportunities to work with our community partners to experience the full impact of the food we grow.
After completing one internship session on the farm, interns can tailor their experience working on the farm or choose to help with nonprofit work related to development, educational programming, marketing and communications, research, etc.
