Farmer - Rung for Women
she/her

Irene is a horticulturist and florist with a background in urban farming, health and wellness and garden education.

Her journey with Urban Harvest STL began in 2016 where she spent two growing seasons as an urban farmer at the Food Roof, and became familiar with food apartheid in the city of St. Louis. This experience along with her time spent as a WIC Nutritionist at Affinia Healthcare sparked her passion for food justice and health equity.  From there, her career in urban farming led her to New York City where she had the pleasure of serving as Urban Farm Manager and Lead Garden Educator for Sprout by Design. It was through this opportunity that she further developed her group leadership and facilitation skills and brought gardening to incarcerated youth, public school kids, permanent supportive housing facilities and people with disabilities.

She believes that empowering people to build their own relationships with plants can transform the way that they view and interact with the world, and she hopes to bring this healing modality to Urban Harvest STL’s participants, employees, volunteers and partners in her new role as Farm Manager.
